記述事項:Begun in October, 1802 by Samuel Gilbert and Thomas Dean, this four-page miscellany was designed chiefly for "fashionable females" and contained occasional paragraphs on London and Paris fashions. It is important for its attention to fiction and richness in theatrical comment; serial novels, "fragments," and short stories are plentiful, and a "Thespian Department" begun in December 1803 provided reviews of productions at the Boston Theater. It also contained two or three essay series, some scientific miscellany, a "monitorial" department, a section of "amusement," poetry, and current events. In January 1804 the magazine suffered a serious loss by fire but nevertheless continued publication for nearly two more years, selling out in October 1805 to Joshua Belcher and Samuel T. Armstrong, who changed the title to "The Boston Magazine." Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900.
