By the Honourable James De Lancey, Esq ; His Majesty's lieutenant governor and commander in chief, in and over the province of New-York ... A proclamation : Whereas our only refuge in times of public calamity and danger, is in the almighty power, wisdom, and goodness of God ... I have therefore thought fit, by and with the advice of His Majesty's Council, to order and appoint ... that Friday the twelfth day of May next, be observed throughout this province, as a day of public humiliation, fasting and prayer ... Given under my hand and seal at arms, at Fort-George, in the city of New-York, the 14th day of April, one thousand seven hundred and fifty eight .

March 14, 1758 Proclamation by Lt. Governor, as Acting Governor, James De Lancey ordering May 12th as a day of fasting in reparation for sins and provocations and for actions of the enemies of Britain. Of note, the French-Indian War was underway during this time.
