Item Description: | Henry Grattan Plunkett was editor of this short-lived humorous paper, which modeled itself after the London Punch. It contained much satire on government, and poked fun at many aspects of American life, particularly life in New York City, through the use of jokes, anecdotes, poetry, and articles, and a great many cartoons and pictures. But in April, 1847, the Dramatic Review wrote its obituary: "A sister has departed from among us; Judy is no more. Her short career was closed by a surfeit of indigestible pleasantries. Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900. Title from cover. |
