Disgrifiad o'r Eitem: | The United States Catholic Magazine began as the Religious Cabinet, a sixty-four page eclectic containing selections from religious writings. After it changed its name in 1843, it became less eclectic and published some fiction, devotional poetry, and a considerable amount of "ecclesiastical intelligence." It was illustrated by several plates each year. As the official organ of the archbishop of Baltimore, it became important as an interpreter of the news; and some articles, such as those on the anti-Catholic riots of Philadelphia and New York, are of permanent value.
