| Crynodeb: | Personal papers and diary of the Jenkins family of Elgin Plantation, Adams County, Mississippi. A typewritten copy of the diary, which forms the major part of the collection, was kept by Dr. John Carmichael Jenkins, an experimental agriculturist and horticulturist, during the last fourteen years of his life, 1841-1855. Dr. Jenkins records the results of his agricultural and horticultural experiments at Elgin, plantation routine, financial transactions, social and literary activities, and travels. Purchases of slaves made by Jenkins and health of slaves are also noted. Jenkins' account book, 1837-1855, shows expenditures for the home, family, plantations, and slaves. There are also letters written by W.D. Jenkins and Julia Dunbar to J.C.F. Jenkins, who was a son of Dr. Jenkins, and a Confederate soldier. One J.C.F.
