500 |a "The editio princeps of the Bible in German, and in any modern language ... Walther inclines to believe that the German translator used a MS. of the Vulgate ... The translation has been ascribed by some to a certain Rudigerus, who may be the Andreas (or Stephan) Rudiger mentioned by C.G. Joecher (Allgemeines Gelehrten-Lexicon, iii. 2292) as having been professor of Theology and Rector of the University at Leipzig in 1451 ... Steigenberger proved that the editio princeps is this Bible printed by Mentel at Strassburg. No indication of printer, place or date appears in the book itself. A rubricator's note, however, at the end of the Munich copy states that the book unbound was bought on 27 June 1466 ... The volume contains 405 printed leaves. Printed in double columns, with 61 lines to the full column. No titlepage, foliation or signatures. After St. Jerome's Prologue and short preface to the Pentateuch, the text of Genesis begins in col. 1 of fo. 4a. The last five leaves contain an index of the titles of the Psalms"--Darlow & Moule.
