Item Description: | Moncure D. Conway edited and wrote most of the articles for the Dial. In addition, O. B. Frothingham contributed to it, and poetry by Ralph Waldo Emerson, Frank Sanborn, and Myron Benton appeared. Although the magazine lasted only one year, it is remembered for its controversial articles on spiritualism and emancipation, including one article on the well-known John Brown. It ceased publication because of the labor required by the editor, and a lack of subscribers. Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900. "Monthly magazine for literature, philosophy and religion." Title from caption. Editor: 1860, M. D. Conway. |
