Notas: | The issues of this weekly were concerned entirely with news by or for farmers. Such material as articles on stock raising, farm machinery, stock and plant diseases, committee reports from fairs, legislative issues of particular interest to farmers, addresses to New England agricultural societies, letters to the editor on various farming techniques and problems filled the pages. A "ladies department" which later became "miscellany" featured poetry and homemaking hints. Early advertisements were small and for a variety of products ranging from a "tooth key" to grave stones. The few illustrations were of fruit or plants. Material from other farm journals was reprinted. Meeting notices of the Anti-Slavery Society, the Temperance Society, cattle shows and fairs were printed. Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900. Title varies slightly. |
