Summary:Consists of literary, religious and historical manuscripts including genealogies, biographies and local histories largely pertaining to Mali (also known as French Sudan prior to independence), but also relating to Senegal, expecially in the French colonial correspondence from Senegal.
Reels 8-12 (= 8:1-5) were originally filmed in Mali for William A. Brown for use in his dissertation, "The Caliphate of Hamdullahi, ca. 1818-1864" (Ph. D., Univ. of Wisconsin, 1969)

Accompanying guide consists of various typewritten and manuscript inventory material and index to reel 1.
Microfilm of manuscripts originally deposited in the Bibliothèque nationale, Paris, in the Archives nationales du Sénégal and in private collections in Mali.
