Description
Published:Vol. 1, no. 25 (Apr. 3, 1813)-v. 4, no. 49 (Dec. 7, 1816)
Item Description:Edited and published by thirteen-year-old Thomas G. Condie, Jr., the Juvenile Port-Folio was one of the most interesting of the juvenile periodicals. Although supposedly devoted to the instruction and amusement of youth, it was not at all childish and actually offered more for women than for children. This four-page weekly magazine included articles on literature, manners, dress, and customs, as well as poetry, anecdotes, romantic tales, biography, and a variety of other material. Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900.
