Item Description:Begun in Cincinnati in 1831, this weekly religious periodical was "devoted to religion, literature and general intelligence." During its long life, its pages provided an explanation and defense of the Roman Catholic faith with discussions of church doctrine and the doctrines of other religions, along with church-related news from the U.S. and Europe. In addition, the Telegraph included biographies, poetry, and reviews of books and magazines, and also published a weekly news summary which included foreign and domestic news and market reports.
