Cur síos ar an mír:The first of its kind in the United States, the American Turf Register was founded and edited for the first ten years by John S. Skinner. According to the Knickerbocker it had no "superior in any country, for various merits, sporting pictures usually involving animals, such as diagrams of horses. The editor felt there was a great need for an authentic record of the performances and pedigrees of bred horses. However, the periodical was not devoted to the turf alone as it also featured material on shooting, hunting, fishing and other outdoor sports. Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900.
