| Item Description: | The basic materials contained in the monographs were compiled and written in Japanese by former officers of the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy. It was later rewritten in English for use in the preparation of the official U.S. Army histories of World War II. It is supplemented by the records from the War History Compilations Section, Army General Staff. Areas covered by Japanese monographs are: New Guinea, Philippines, Central Pacific, Okinawa & Formosa, Japan proper, Borneo & French Indo-China, Malaya, Java & Sumatra, Burma, China, Manchuria and Karafuto. |
