Item Description:The Reverend Noah Worcester, a Unitarian, became an advocate of international peace during the War of 1812. In 1813 he began his Christian Disciple, and in 1815 was prominent in the foundation of the Massachusetts Peace Society, and also founded the Friend of Peace. This quarterly expressed the sentiments of the anti-war movement which developed following the War of 1812 and included articles on Napoleon's campaign in Russia as well as other material opposing war and the annual reports of the Massachusetts Peace Society. In 1818 Worcester resigned his editorship of the Christian Disciple in order to devote his full attention to the advocacy of peace. Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900.
