Description
Published:Vol. 1, no. 1 (June 20, 1835)-[v. 4 (1841)]
Item Description:The Library's purpose was to present a full and complete outline of history down to modern times, and was an attempt to place a library of standard history within reach of almost everyone. It presented complete works; some of these were Hallam's History of the State of Europe during the Middle Ages, Chambers' Rebellion in Scotland, Ramsay's History of the American Revolution, Guizot's revision of Gibbon's History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, and Napier's History of the War in the Peninsula. Usually one work would take several numbers to complete, and it comprised the entire contents of those several numbers. Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900.
Included on film: new ed. of both History of the war in the Peninsula, by F.W.P. Napier, Part 1; and History of the decline and fall of the Roman Empire, by E. Gibbon (called v. 1-2). These three vols. appear to comprise v. [2-4] of The Historical family library.
