One aim is theoretical, and systematize, from a historical and sociological point of view, the development of adult education in the brasilian State of Amazonas. First, the development of this system of instruction in Latin American and in Brazil are decribed. Second, we pay attention to its specific development in the amazon context. The educational proyects designed by the State Gverment to implement a complementary education are assessed for the first time. Such proyects are studied historically according to: a) underlying political ideology; b) the expert that are responsible for this implementation; c) the adresee people and d) their main contents. The other aim is empirical to provide a general view of adult education (EDA) in Amazonas from an organizational and psychosocial perspective. The variables studied relate to the most representative agents in the educational process: 1) Those students who attend the class and those ones who attend; 2) the staff that now is teaching in the amazon EDA. Students were assessed in the following variables: School Climate, Attitudes towards EDA, Motives of Choice and Self-esteem. Teachers were assessed in the following variables: Labour Climate, Labour Satisfaction, Attitudes to EDA and Self-esteem. In both cases we describe main conclusions, the future plans suggested by the results and the contrast with the reality, in line with our experience and others investigations." |
