Description
Published:Vol. 1, no. 1 (Mar. 1886)-
Item Description:The Political Science Quarterly began in Mar. 1886 under the editorship of the political science faculty of Columbia University. Its managing editor during most of its first quarter-century was Munroe Smith. Most of its articles were contributed by its editors, the most frequent early contributors being Edwin R. A. Seligman, John Bassett Moore, Franklin H. Giddings, James Harvey Robinson, Samuel McCune Lindsay, and Charles A. Beard. It also published papers by Woodrow Wilson, Arthur T. Hadley, Albert Shaw, Horace White, and others. It was nonpartisan and covered topics in politics, economics, sociology and history. The book review department was important and a "Record of Political Events" was included semiannually beginning in 1888. The New Princeton Review, a shortlived bimonthly containing literary and art criticism and political and religious articles, merged with the Political Science Quarterly at the end of 1888. Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900.
Vols. 4-38, 40-41 include Record of political events, Oct. 1, 1888-Dec. 31, 1925 (issued as a separately paged supplement to no. 3 o v. 31-38 and to no. 1 of v. 40)
