descrición da copia:Dr. Nathaniel Chapman, a professor of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, founded this medical journal in 1820 in reply to Sydney Smith's attack on American culture which appeared in the Edinburgh Review. Smith's question "What does the world yet owe to American physicians and surgeons?" was adopted as the motto of this quarterly journal, which traced the progress of medicine in the U.S. It contained articles on medical theory and other physicians, medical news, and biography, along with criticism of medical literature, including foreign journals.
