Popis jednotky: | Founded in 1822 by Bishop B. B. Smith and surviving well into the twentieth century, this Philadelphia magazine was the chief organ of the Reformed Episcopal Church. This weekly religious paper had a newspaper-type format, publishing many short items--essays and articles on religious topics, sermons, domestic and foreign news, and religious intelligence, including church announcements, and news of missions, Sunday schools, and Bible societies. There was a section for children, as well as some poetry, book reviews, and biographical sketches. Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900. Title from caption. |
