Later, they were combined into a single series of 104 plates and printed ca. 1596. Other sources state that the first recorded issue of Venationes was dated 1578 and published in Antwerp by Philip Galle with 104 plates but in the 17th century the plates were replaced, reorganized and renumbered for a total suite of 102. | ||

From 1553 to 1571 he was employed by Cosimo de Medici, who commissioned him to make a series of lavish representations of hunting, fowling and fishing for the adornment of twenty rooms in the Palace of Peggio-a-Cajano. The designs in the Venationes blend Renaissance hunting methods with subject matter drawn from Persia, India and the East. | ||
