Description
Summary:"The thesis about the Artistic Patronage of the Fraternity of Seamen in Galicia (centuries XV-XVI) deals with the approach to some groups that play an important role in Galician life ata social and economic level. It also shows their importance in the artistic world, to sponsor, well partially well totally, all a series of works. Through these groups is produced also approach, from the urban point of view, to the nucleus where they settle. These are characterized by having differentiated settlements, in concrete spaces, determinated by the profession they carry out. These urban sectors become revitalizing essence of urban life. but this distinguishing character is not established for settlement of their works because, in many occasions, their constructions placed in the interior of the walled cores are converted in integrated elements of their groups in society. With this purpose was carried out chronological revision of the buildings and their constructive phases, and also the analysis of the diferent patterns that contributed to their raising. This is complemented with the study of their factories where the stages of preceding and contemporary influences are proved. At the same time in amalgam of styles in concrete spaces are fused, and the constructions became reflection of labour activity and in mirror of the Galician devotional world in the XV and XVI centuries. Thereby, in the study we can take into account Santa María la Mayor from Pontevedra, Santa María do Azougue, in Betanzos, San Martiño, from Noia, Santa María del campo from Muros, the Ex-Colegiata from Baiona, andalso others as Santa María das Areas from Fisterra, san Marcos from Corcubión or Santa Columba de Rianxo, at the same time that it deals with a welfare centre: the Hospital of San Andrés from a Coruña."
